Josh Schultz serves as the Napa County Superintendent of Schools, having been appointed by the Napa County Board of Education in August 2025 after years of dedicated service to the region’s education system.

Josh brings more than three decades of experience in public education to his role, with extensive expertise in both classroom instruction and administrative leadership. He started his career as a Social Science teacher in the St. Helena Unified School District, where he taught Government, Economics, and U.S. History. Over the years, he transitioned into various leadership positions, including directing research and sponsored programs at Sonoma State University, before joining the Napa County Office of Education (NCOE) in 2008.

Josh’s background as a classroom teacher in K-12 and as an administrator in higher education gives him unique experience to help support classroom educators in the challenges they face and help ensure Napa County schools are adequately preparing students for success in college.

Josh and Jane Before being appointed Superintendent, Josh served as Deputy Superintendent and Chief Business Official, where he oversaw the county office’s daily operations, business services, and fiscal accountability for Napa County’s school districts. During that time, he played a key role in major local initiatives, such as developing the Camille Creek Community School campus and enhancing early childhood learning facilities.

Josh is widely respected throughout California as a thoughtful and collaborative leader. He has contributed to statewide educational policy efforts, including serving as Chair of the California County Superintendents Association's Business and Administrative Services Committee and participating in state-level work on school funding and accountability.

Josh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the University of California, Berkeley, an MBA from the University of San Francisco, and holds California credentials in teaching and educational administration.

Josh and his wife Jane have three adult children, all products of public schools. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Josh enjoys swimming, playing guitar, and exploring the outdoors.
